FAQ

Who is Veta Nell?

Please see "Our Company" page for more information about our business, who Veta Nell was, and how we are continuing her legacy.

What ingredients are in Veta Nell candles?
We blend our custom scents using domestically-sourced essential oils and natural fragrances. Our candles are scented throughout the body of the candle, and we blend the highest volume of scent into our wax. We use a luxurious and soft coconut wax blend for a healthy burn. Our food-grade coconut oil is vegan, non-GMO, and free of beeswax, sulfates, parabens, paraffin, and phthalates. Our pure cotton wicks are zinc and lead-free.

Are Veta Nell candles environmentally safe?
Our scents meet strict eco-standards. We source our scent materials from California, which is governed by Proposition 65. Prop 65 stringently regulates substances officially listed by California as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Our scents are free from these substances as well as other chemicals frequently used in fragrances that might be harmful. Further, the scents in Veta Nell candles meet the extensive European policies and guidelines for safe and clean products. Veta Nell candles are also free of dyes. Finally, as noted above, our food-grade coconut oil is vegan, non-GMO, and free of beeswax, sulfates, parabens, paraffin, and phthalates. Our pure cotton wicks are zinc and lead-free.

Where are your candles made?

Veta Nell is an Austin, Texas based company, and our workshop is located in the Hill Country, just west of Austin. Candles are made by hand in our workshop. We domestically source all scents and wax.

What is the expected burn life of Veta Nell candles? How can I extend my candle's life?

  • 16-ounce candles: with 2 wicks, approximately 80 hours; with 3 wicks, approximately 65 hours.

  • 8-ounce candles: with 1 wick, approximately 55 hours; with 2 wicks, approximately 40 hours.

To extend burn life, trim wicks on every burn to a very short 1/4", burn your candle intermittently, and do not burn for more than 4 hours. A candle's life will be shorter if burned every day or with less than 24 hours between burns.

Will my candle ship without breaking?
Yes, our candle boxes are very secure, and each candle box is amply cushioned within the shipping box to travel safely.

What are the best candle care tips?

  • For a clean burn, before relighting always trim your wick to a very short 1/4 inch. Use a wick trimmer and dipper stick for a great candle experience.

  • Burn up to 4 hours. On the first use, it's ideal to burn until most of the top surface melts. Corner wax in your square vase will melt down on later burns.

  • To avoid soot, always remove any wick mushrooms, which may form atop used wicks. Sometimes atmospheric or other conditions will cause a wick to mushroom. While your candle is burning, if you notice a wick mushroom forming, extinguish the flame, trim off the mushroom, and re-light.

  • Always recap your candle between burns to keep dust off the surface.

  • Sparkling to the end! Late in the candle's life, if any traces of soot appear on the candle's walls, you can easily clean the walls using a paper towel or Windex. Due to our very soft coconut wax, any residue quickly wipes away. Note: only clean the candle walls when the candle is unlit and the wax is solid.

How can I re-use my Veta Nell vase?
At Veta Nell, we've intentionally designed our vases to be reusable and thus more environmentally friendly. Your vase is made from high-clarity glassware in vivid hues and is free of adhesive labels. It is ideal for reuse in the kitchen, for storage, for décor, or as a home for a favorite plant. To re-use, simply use a utensil (ideally plastic) to pop off the wick base and remove any residue with dish soap or Windex. Then, the full vase can be easily cleaned with hot water and dish soap. (Vases are not dishwasher safe).

Why did my candle arrive with a coaster?

We deliver each Veta Nell candle with a complimentary white ceramic glass coaster. The coaster will protect your surfaces and allow the vivid hue of your candle vase to shine.
